✨ "Surviving is not living." ✨

Movie Review: A Journey (Netflix) Starring: Kaye Abad-Castillo, Paolo Contis, Patrick GarciaFirst of all, to whoever crafted the story, "WOW, you got my heart!" I watch a lot of Filipino movies and most of the time I can easily predict the plot. But this one? I honestly did not see it coming.Seeing Kaye, Paolo, and Patrick together instantly brought me back to Tabing Ilog days in the 90s. I was young back then, and watching this film felt like a nostalgic reunion, not the complete cast but just enough to warm my heart as if I was also reunited with a part of my childhood. These three have always been stars but here, they proved they only get better with time, like fine wine. The story is deeply moving, a blend of friendship and true love. The kind we don't always encounter in real life but the kind we all deserve. I loved how the plot flowed naturally with unexpected turns that kept me hooked. It even introduced me to Tasmania and the Tasmanian devil which I had never really looked into before this film. And seeing the legendary Jimmy Santos again was a delight. As an Eat Bulaga child myself, it added another layer of warmth and nostalgia. The emotions hit hard. The movie made me happy, excited, in love and then made me cry rivers. As a daughter missing her dad and as someone who longs for genuine friendship and love, the story touched me deeply and, in a way, filled some of those empty spaces. It may not have ended with the kind of happiness we usually expect but it delivered lessons that stick. The one I'll never forget is this:"Surviving is not living." We must remember to truly enjoy our life on earth."A Journey" is heartfelt, nostalgic, and unforgettable. It's not just a movie. It's a reminder of love, friendship, and what it means to really live.My Rating: Stars in the Universe/10 - a must-watch for anyone who loves stories that move both the heart and soul.KUDOS KAYE, PAOLO, AND PATRICK!!!Looking forward to more projects or films for you three!!

Heartfelt, moving, gently humorous

The characters: Shane (Kaye Abad) who has just celebrated her 39th birthday in a karaoke bar with her husband Bryan (Paolo Contis) and their best friend Kristoff (Patrick Garcia) a famous TV actor. Bryan works as Kristoff's manager and Shane runs a pastry shop with her mother. The three have been best friends since elementary school and friendship has stood the passage of time.

Shane is a breast cancer survivor. Shortly after her birthday she is informed by her oncologist that cancer has returned, although is still potentially amenable to treatment. Instead of going again through the ordeal of chemotherapy and radiation, Shane decides not to seek treatment to the dismay of Bryan and Kristoff. Instead she compiles a list (that he calls her "magic list") of what she would like to experience during the time left to her. The list includes revisiting the place of her first date with Bryan, seeing penguins, doing snorkeling and, by Bryan's suggestion, attempting to connect with her absent father (whom she refers to as Mr. T) whose whereabouts are unknown.

A script like this inevitably brings to mind several recent movies, but this one stands on its own. The plot is carried along by Abad's considerable charisma and the easy, natural chemistry between the three lead actors. They had already been together playing best friends in Tabing ilog (Riverside), a wildly successful Philipine TV series that aired between 1999 and 2003 and became sort of a cult classic Another positive is the light touch (tinged with humor) that the director applies to the tale even in dramatic scenes, which saves the movie from becoming a soap opera. Conversely, there are funny scenes, such as one involving the popular Filipino singer Ogie Alcasid playing himself, where sadness is ever present in the background. There is no preaching but the tale has implications on love, friendship and the value of the quest even if it does not attain its objective. I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end.
