Wounds at Home, Hope Behind the Silence

Rumah untuk Alie, based on the best-selling novel by Lenn Liu, tells a poignant family drama about Alie, the youngest of five siblings, who suffers emotional and physical abuse after her mother's death. She is blamed by her family, bullied at school, and desperately seeks acceptance and love from those who are supposed to protect her. Here's why I give it 7.5/10:1. Performance and Character Depth Alie's portrayal is heartfelt - the pain, the hope, the silent resilience feel authentic. Supporting characters provide strong contrasts, showing how familial roles meant to nurture can sometimes wound. The film draws you in emotionally.2. Themes that Resonate The film tackles important issues: family acceptance, misplaced blame, and how grief can distort relationships. The idea that home is not always a sanctuary, but one can still hold hope, gives the story its power.3. Technical Execution & Atmosphere With a runtime of around 95 minutes, the film maintains emotional tension without overstaying its welcome. The visual portrayal of the home, the use of lighting, and the background score all reinforce the emotional weight. Although some parts slow down, the film mostly preserves mood and pathos.Weaknesses include:Some dialogues or dramatic moments feel a bit cliché or predictable.Emotional transitions can be abrupt; some scenes moving from tension to resolution feel rushed. Some secondary characters are not fleshed out as much, which weakens certain interactions.Overall, Rumah untuk Alie is moving and powerful. It's made for those who appreciate heartfelt stories about trauma, hope, and the complexities of family. 7.5/10 feels fitting: not without flaws, but the emotional impact is strong and meaningful.

My Honest Review of "Rumah Untuk Alie"

This movie is based on a best-selling novel, which I honestly haven't read myself. But I believe the story probably worked better as a novel than as a movie. For me, the plot was way too mainstream, the logic didn't make sense at all, and it was super predictable. The emotional scenes that were supposed to make people cry just didn't hit the mark. The dialogue felt stiff, the acting (except one) was kinda meh, and there were some characters that didn't even need to be there. It's a good story, just not executed well. What I did like was Anantya Kirana's performance as Alie-she was really good, cool, and felt natural. The rest of the cast? Pretty standard, like something you'd see in a basic TV drama.Overall, I'm giving this rating mainly because of Anantya Kirana's acting and the story that had potential, even though it didn't land the way it should've. If the movie had been truly inspired by the novel with a more interesting adaptation, it could've been way better.

Novel is good, but for film is worst

Very common in Indonesia industry film. Theres no progress at everything.Script, cinematic process, flow, acting. Big no. If i can give 0/10, i will gave it. But the 1 star it is for the Alie actrees. She is very good playing her role. There's a lot of things that made me confuse. Why they are made this?
