Watchable Once

Its an independent film with decent acting that wasn't painful to watch. Each actor lent a very good performance. However, the female lead (in comparison to the other actors) seemed as if she wasn't sure how to act, react or even was familiar with her lines; that was a bit distracting. The movie kept me in suspense, despite random predictability. The directing/cinematography was immersing me into its world, while some shots I felt were too rushed or unnecessary. It is worth a watch just to see something familiar done a little differently.

A sci-fi/horror outing that means bloody business

1987. Seth Hampton (nicely played by Graham Skipper) sees his friend Mark Fisher (a solid performance by Josh Ethier) disappear in a flash of blue light. Two years later Mark returns as total raving psycho who embarks on a killing spree.

Writer/director Joe Begos keeps the enjoyable and engrossing story hurtling along at a breathless brisk pace, ably crafts a creepy and unsettling mood, maintains an unsparingly harsh tone throughout, generates a good deal of tension, perfectly captures the gritty aesthetic of low-budget 80's sci-fi/horror fare, and delivers a handy helping of graphic gore. This movie further benefits from the spirited acting from a game no-name cast, with especially lively work from Vanessa Leigh as feisty waitress Jen Craven and Ethier as the crazed Mark. The tight 80 minute running time ensures that this flick never gets dull or overstays its welcome. Done with a spot-on savage and relentless aplomb, this honey overall rates as a good'n'gruesome blast.
