Plot summary

On their way to a family get-together, the Herring family are in a bad car accident, waking in a terrifying, dark basement. Something is there with them. Caged. And it craves human flesh. With a mysterious overseer aiding the creature like a pet, the family must work together to find a way to defeat them both and make their escape.

Waste of money

It always amazes me how films like this get made. Terrible acting, with long inexplicable pauses in the terrible dialogue, and some bloke in a dodgy costume pretending to eat bits off people.Totally unbelievable and no explanation provided.How much money was spent producing this guff, and WHY???

Nah...

While the cover for this 2025 horror movie titled "Bait" certainly permeated a low budget feel, I still opted to watch what writer Sam Gurney and director Andrea M. Catinella had to offer.The storyline in the movie was straightforward, but so simplistic that you could essentially leave the narrative for a long period of time and return only to find yourself still up to speed with the narrative. Yeah, writer Sam Gurney didn't exactly manage to put together a particularly thrilling, scary or entertaining script and storyline for director Andrea M. Catinella to bring to the screen.Something that spoke in favor of the movie, was the fact that I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. Yup, I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen. The acting performances in "Bait" were adequate, but nothing outstanding or noteworthy.The effects in the movie were adequate. Nothing grand, but actually fair enough for what it was. I've seen far worse special effects and creature designs in horror movies, so the effects in "Bait" at least counted for something and added to the overall enjoyment of the movie; not much, but a bit at least.Hardly a movie that I would recommend to avid horror fans. But I suppose if you are a newcomer to the horror genre, then "Bait" might be a kick for you to watch. But for a lifelong horror aficionado then this was a mere walk in the park.I am not returning to watch "Bait" a second time, as it was a struggle to get through the first time around.My rating of "Bait" lands on a very generous two out of ten stars.
