Plot summary

Elina is a flower fairy who discovers that her home of Magic Meadow has been overcome by a horrible malady that is killing the flowers and making the fairies unable to fly. With the help of Bibble, a puffball and a giant butterfly named Hue she attempts to find Azura, a Guardian Fairy. She's challenged along the way by the evil Laverna who wants to usurp the Enchantress, the ruler of Fairytopia.

Really cute movie

The story is ok it's the little details that I love like the "rainbow in her eye" and the sparkles of the wings and the makeup. I also really loved the colorful theming of each fairy. I paid attention through the whole thing and laughed at Bibbles antics. I am rewatching all the barbie movies (all 45!) and this is one of the best ones so far. Weirdly I feel I remember it but I can't remember watching it as a kid when it came out.My only caveat was barbies arms were FREAKISHLY long in some scenes and it was silly looking/weird. But other than that no complaints.Anyways it would be enjoyable for kids and adults. My rating is closer to a 6.5/10 but gave it an optimistic 7 since you can't do halves.

for a movie made to sell toys...

This movie isn't actually as bad as you would think. I dreaded this movie all the way home from the video store (where my 2 year old insisted that we rent this movie), thinking a movie about barbie has got to be horrible. But I was pleasantly surprised. The movie actually follows somewhat of a coherent plot. The animation is above average for these direct to video movies. The characters are of course beautiful, but they are also pretty well fleshed out for a 60 minute long movie. Of course after seeing this my daughter wanted to immediately run out and buy an Elina doll. However, for those of you who aren't excited about buying Barbie dolls due to the sexist and perfectionist attitude taken making the dolls can rest assured that the dolls are at least mythical fairies, and therefore can't help being perfect. Or whatever, just buy your daughter the dolls already. Okay so maybe the movie did make me want to buy the dolls, but like I said it was a pretty good movie for what it is!
