Plot summary

The film follows Zeke (Robert McMurray), Callie (Alicia Marie Marcucci), Les (Seth Gontkovic) and Hunter (Jake Mulliken) on the eve of Hunter's 29th birthday as they share in a few drinks on a seemingly dull day in their hometown of Somerset. The day takes a turn for the worse as everyone they have ever known are suddenly transformed into aggressively murderous flesh eating freaks. The four comrades are forced to hack and slash their way through the reanimated corpses of their closest friends and loved ones, only to find themselves on the precipice of a post apocalyptic wasteland littered with monsters and the looming threat of their fellow survivors.

Nah...

I had never actually heard about this 2014 zombie movie titled "Meltdown", although the version I found was titled "Berserkers" for some reason. Regardless, with it being a horror movie, and a zombie movie at that, that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to check out what writer and director Jacob O'Brien Mulliken had to offer. I have to say, though, that I harbored zero expectations to the movie.Writer Jacob O'Brien Mulliken put together a rather straightforward and generic script, even for a zombie movie. Sure, it wasn't exactly the worst of zombie movies that I've sat through, nor was it among the worst. Watchable for what it was, sure, but don't expect to be amazed. It should be noted that the narrative was a bit on the boring side.Needless to say that I was, of course, not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. The acting performances were fair.The effects in the movie were actually fair for a movie of this production level.A low budget zombie movie, for sure, but it was definitely made with some love of the genre put into it.My rating of writer an director Jacob O'Brien Mulliken's 2014 movie "Meltdown" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

B rated at most...

So. I want to start by saying, I did kinda enjoy the 80s B movie feel. And while the writing was... Mediocre and predictable, I enjoyed it more than my star rating suggests. The practical effects are both over the top and ridiculously bad all at the same time. But even that isnt why it is 3 stars. It doesnt end. And I dont mean its too long. I mean, it literally doesnt have an ending. It just... stops. Like a book where someone removed the last few chapters. There is no conclusion, not even a bad one, it doesnt tie up a single lose end, and you never get any question answered. It was left open, extremely obviously, for a sequel, and honestly, I would have watched it. But if one exists, I cant seem to find it. So do yourself a favor, and skip this movie. You will thank me for it...
