Plot summary

Two seconds into the bubbling synth sounds of its theme song will have a child of the 1980s or ‘90s exclaiming “Reading Rainbow!” Such is the beloved and ubiquitous nature of the classic children’s literary television show that introduced millions of kids to the wonder and importance of books. Not only did the series insist on having kids speak to kids about their favorite stories, but Reading Rainbow introduced the world to one of the most adored television hosts of all time in LeVar Burton. Thanks to his direct, non-patronizing and, most importantly, kind delivery, Burton became a conduit to learning for children of every background—an entrancing guide to subjects unknown.

I loved this show, the documentary honors it well

There was a lot of nostalgia in this documentary for me. While it isn't so much what I look for in a documentary, I enjoyed the many stories, first hand accounts, show footage, and Lavar Burton interviews. This show did a lot for children, especially underprivileged children. It bridged a socio-economic gap that is still in place today. It is a good reminder of how important education is, and how its availability is not something we can take for granted.

Great Documentary

Brings back such memories and it was engaging and heartfelt. Feels like people made this who cared. It was enjoyable time spent. I liked the balance of clips to interviews in this an the flow. They did not try to drag it out to three episodes like sometimes happens. It has alot of information i didn't know about it but had sometimes wondered about when I was young.

Amazing documentary showing the making of the beloved children's show "Reading Rainbow"!

Reading rainbow was a staple of my childhood along with Mr Rodger's. Lavar Burton instilled a passion about reading that I only ever got from my mama. That show connected kids with the greater world and showed us how to use our imagination when we read. This severely helped with reading comprehension as a child. It is a shame that our children now days do not have those same role models and mentors to explore with. I just watched the documentary "Butterfly in the sky" about the making of Reading Rainbow. I think I smiled thru the entire thing. If this show made an impact on you, I highly recommend you watch it.
