early Tilda Swinton

Lucky (Tilda Swinton) is a big fan of the fashion magazine Caprice. She eagerly waits for it before they are delivered to the local newsstand. Somehow, she is pulled into the fantastical world behind the cover. This is most compelling for being an early Tilda Swinton short. For that, this deserves an extra point. It also marks an early collaboration between her and director Joanna Hogg. Of course, they have to take off her glasses to make her pretty. Tilda is not pretty when she's wearing them. The story is rather simple, but it is a half hour short after all. I do love the 80's look, the fashion, the music, and everything else.

Not very memorable

A story about consuming. The movie is created in a quirky, fast paced fashion, with Swindon as the central character. I am not a great fan of Tilda Swindon, as somehow she always manages to smile during sad moments and cry when things are lightening up... and indeed in this movie her performance is also quite disappointing. At least she doesn't speak in this feature, but her overstretched facial expressions are over the top. Hard to understand why her acting talents are rated so highly, but sometime you don't have to understand everything. Perhaps it's her striking looks? But that would be discrimination of much better actors...
