Wow this was one of the totally worst movies I have seen in three years.
It's got a non-existent budget that shows. It's ridiculously overly pretentious in it's bad writing.
And the acting is really bottom of the barrel.
Here's an example from before the opening credits: An old guy is talking to a young guy about his inheritance. E goes on for a while when we hear a baby's cry and the young guy's wife -- who has unnaturally black hair pops in.
"Oh," she says, "I didn't know anyone was here. What can I help you with."
How does this make sense? It's clear her hubby has already been sitting and talking to this guy at some length.
Who writes this garbage?
And BTW, this movie is chaptered into ten parts (hence the title, Chapter X). It's of interest to note that Chapter vi starts at 10'30". The movie is 90 minutes long.
Plot summary
Decades after the gruesome murder of his parents, Luke learns of a forgotten inheritance; a rustic cabin buried deep in the Wasatch Mountains. The property rekindles Luke’s fragmented memories of that fateful night and unearths new horrors.

Worse than Horrible
(un) Pleasant Surprise.
Well, this was certainly better than expected. It's low budget, but uses that effectively. Visually and script-wise that side of things is utilised very well, creating an interesting, enigmatic atmosphere that gives "the horror" some room to build and breathe.
If there's a weakness in here, it's the main lead - which isn't to say that he's "bad", but... for me, he just didn't have the right look. He's competent, but - frankly "too well fed", whereas I think a gaunt, more haggard looking lead would have served the film better.
I think the soundtrack whilst not "stand out" was again, used effectively, but perhaps from an "effects" pov could have leaned harder into the "weird".
It's probably worth keeping an eye out for the director, I'd be interested in seeing what they do next.
