Plot summary

A movie about walking around in the forest...

Initially, I have to admit that this 2022 thriller's synopsis sounded interesting. And since it was a movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually ever heard about, of course I needed no persuasion to watch it and give it a fair chance.However, it should be noted that I have a heavy aversion towards movies that are directed by, written by and starring one and the same person. And "Distress Signals" happened to be one such movie, as Christine Nyland co-wrote, co-directed and starred in the movie. So we were not off to a grand start here.Writers Terence Krey and Christine Nyland didn't manage to put together a particularly thrilling or exciting script. It was, for a lack of better words, bland and boring. To summarize the entire movie here, it was essentially just the character Caroline Hale (played by writer, director and actress Christine Nyland) walking around in the forest. Yup, steller script writing right there.I was not familiar with a single actress or actor on the cast list; something that actually spoke in overall favor of the movie. Despite of having a small cast ensemble, the acting performances in the movie were actually fair.Something that does work in favor of the movie was the cinematography. The movie was nicely filmed in some pretty good locations. Lots of nice visuals to take in, and I do like the camera work in the movie.So is "Distress Signals" a movie that I would recommend you to go track down and spend 80 minutes on watching? No, hardly so. Nor is it a movie that will ever find its way back on my screen a second time.My rating of writers and directors Terence Krey and Christine Nyland's 2022 movie "Distress Signals" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
