Don't Mess With Her!

Nonsensical but fun

I didn't have any high expectations from "Don't Mess With Grandma," but I have to admit that in the end, I was entertained...and that's pretty much all I ask of a movie.Michael Jai White plays a former Special Forces soldier who is visiting his grandma. She is hard of hearing as well as hard of seeing, which allows the unlikely plot of him being able to spend all night hiding the fact that droves of robbers are trying to steal her blind...so to speak. Said robbers are led by a barely recognizable Billy Zane, hidden behind a really absurd mustache.The situations truly are ridiculous, but the cast doesn't take it seriously and is able to walk that "fine line between stupid and clever." White does a nice job with the humor, although the soliloquies are a little long. But if you can suspend disbelief long enough and just take the movie on its own attempt at mindless entertainment, you can probably enjoy it. It is what it is. Nothing special, but good for a few chuckles.

Just a nice story about a man and his dog and his grandma.

I watched "Don't Mess With Grandma" because I have enjoyed some of Michael Jai White's other films, in particular, the cult favorite "Black Dynamite". And, while White once again beats the snot out of some jerks, this time he's older, less confident and not quite the invincible superhero.Jasper (White) goes to his grandma's house and it soon is clear her hearing isn't very good and she's a tad oblivious. During this time at her house, some burglars arrive and try to break in...and Jasper pummels them. So, they bring more friends, and Jasper pummels them...and his grandma's pitbull kills one of them. So, they bring in more friends. Why? And, what's next? See the film.This is not a great film but made me laugh quite a few times. I also appreciate how White is now well into his 50s...and while tough, he's NOT the man of steel. A clever comedy...though also one with an obviously low budget and modest pretensions. Worth seeing it you like White's work...otherwise, you might be able to skip this one.
