Not the greatest, but watchable.

The only reason I decided to watch 'Fear Cabin' is due to its impressive poster (see, the power of the poster!) Written, directed, produced by and starring Brian Krainson, he clearly believed in the project and gave it his all.Let's be honest, this is a B-movie, but I have so much respect for Brian for pulling this off. With the involvement of his family and friends, he was able to make it on a shoestring budget, and although it isn't great, it also isn't all that bad either. Some scenes work, some don't, and then there are even scenes that surprised me by how creepy and effective they are.The film revolves around six friends going to a cabin in the woods. On arrival, the creepy owner has only two rules: to clean up after themselves, and to stay away from the graves in the woods. Upon discovering a diary that might be a witch's, David throws it into the fire. Shortly thereafter, strange things start happening. With their phones gone and their car being tampered with, they're stuck... and the fight for survival is on...Years ago a witch named Victoria Collins was hanged to death. Now she is back for revenge. The film sort of reminded me of 'Evil Dead'. As I said, the film is clearly low budget, but I've definitely seen worse. At least I was never tempted to hit the STOP button...

Nothing outstanding here...

Right, well I've said it before and I will say it again; movies that are directed by, written by and starring the one and same guy or girl is usually always a questionable affair. And "Fear Cabin: The Last Weekend of Summer" was a movie that happened to have one guy in all three roles. However, since it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually ever heard about, and given my love of all things horror, of course I opted to give the movie the benefit of the doubt.I was not familiar with a single actor or actress, aside from Jeremy London. The acting performances in the movie were fair. Now, if you are a newcomer to the horror genre, then I suppose "Fear Cabin: The Last Weekend of Summer" would be a worthwhile movie to sit through. But for a life-long seasoned horror veteran, then the movie just didn't really come off as being particularly outstanding. Watchable, for sure, but nothing worthwhile writing home about. The effects in the movie were fair, I will say that much, and that definitely helped to keep the movie afloat. My rating of writer and director Brian Krainson's 2024 movie lands on a very generous four out of ten stars.
