Plot summary
Their town always had two proms, one for the whites and one for the blacks. When both proms wanted the same DJ, Brianna McCallister suggested combining the proms, which would also mean more money for decorations. However, her idea shook the town up, especially after a white student was let off for the same offense that a black student was suspended for. Can the town overcome racial tensions and finally combine the two proms?

For One Night - Shows Plenty of Racial Heat Here ***1/2
"For One Night" intelligently deals with a racially simmering problem in a small Louisiana town in modern days. It's basically where a school has segregated its proms. One young black student, Brianna, who is being considered for class valedictorian, wants to change all that.
While this is occurring, a black journalist comes back to town and picks up on this to create a tremendous story with racial animosity following.
This young reporter is in love with the town's white assistant principal. This guy fits the breed of our modern educators-a swinger, fun-loving person with serious intentions all around.
Naturally, we have the cliché council man who is the epitome of bigotry. His daughter really likes a black student as well.
The film seriously questions our racial mores and doesn't necessarily end on a very positive note.
We see the politics involved on just about every level- the town's school system being a prime example. We see a principal caught up in all this. There is also the stereotyped black father who is passive, thereby getting the journalist daughter angry at him.
