Jade Leung delivers the goods in this intelligent girls 'n' guns outing

Apart from the goofy and annoying antics of the obnoxious pimp character, I really enjoyed this femme fatale entry from action diva Jade Leung. In a genre that even the Hong Kong film industry is abandoning, Jade proves that she still has what it takes to kick some serious butt. She also shows a little more diversity as an actress and doesn't seem as wooden and stoic as many of her previous performances. Another welcome surprise is the inclusion of an intelligent and resourceful villain, who is just plain nasty and doesn't have to prove it with maniacal laughter and random acts of chaotic violence. A respectable budget, a decent plot, strong performances by everyone, and out of control action sequences make this film an action lover's treat.

Rather boring...

I had never heard about the 1995 Hong Kong crime action movie "Cuo Ti Zhui Ji Zu He" (aka "Fox Hunter") before now in 2023, as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch it. I had happened to stumble upon the movie by random chance, and with it being a Hong Kong movie, of course I opted to watch it.

And I have to admit that with the likes of Jade Leung and Jordan Chan on the cast list, then I actually assumed that the movie would most likely be an enjoyable one.

Well, writers To-Hoi Kong, Chi-Wai Sin and Wei Tung just failed to impress me with their script and storyline for this movie. Talk about a swing and a miss. In fact, the movie was so slow paced and boring that I actually dozed off once or twice along the way.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough, though the actors and actresses didn't really have much contents to work with.

This was by no means a gem in the Hong Kong cinema. And I hadn't missed out on anything grand here.

My rating of "Cuo Ti Zhui Ji Zu He", from director Wei Tung, lands on a three out of ten stars.
