Plot summary

Unfolding over the span of 36 hours in three separate wars – The American Civil War, World War I, and Iraq – FOXHOLE follows five soldiers confined in a foxhole as they grapple with morality, futility, and an increasingly volatile combat situation. Casting the same five actors in each episode, the film depicts the shifting roles of race and gender over time against the backdrop of the seemingly endless human struggle for power and domination. Morals and Accountability

BLUF: This isn't perfect, but it conveyed several messages on moral grounds and taking accountability for one's actions.

Civil War: Whether to abandon a dying man as "dead already", or take the chance on loosing manpower at a strong point by trying to save him.

WW1: Fear and distrust cloud these mens minds as a German scout stumbles into their foxhole. What to do with him? Kill him to prevent any chance of him causing them harm? Or trust his warning of an impending attack?

Gulf War/GWOT(?): This one was a little too "out there", but still had some worthy elements. A bit cringy uniform wise and that awful rap the M2 gunner was playing on his boombox.

Yes, there were foxholes in the Civil War & WW1 depictions. They may not be great looking ones, but they fill most of those two scenes. So cool down Stanley Yelnats in the other review.

The fog of war is presented in all three eras; literal fog in the first, night-time in the second, and the dust of the desert in the third.

Good idea, moderately well done.

Pretty, and pretty bad.

We watched this at work. My coworker and I are both veterans, and his comment was, "John Wayne is rolling in his grave". Seems like the writer/director spent a lot of time with the visual and mood he was trying to convey, but he probably should've hired a technical advisor. It's supposed to be a military movie, but the interaction between the men wasn't very realistic. A lot of arguments that wouldn't happen. A lot of sitting around looking at each other that wouldn't happen. We were laughing at parts that, I suspect, weren't supposed to be funny. Civilians probably thought it was good. If you want a good military movie, rewatch The Battle Of The Bulge.
