Single Take, Split Decision: Gatillero Shoots for Glory

Gatillero is a bold experiment in real-time storytelling, shot in a single continuous take that plunges viewers into the chaotic world of Isla Maciel. While the technical prowess is undeniable - director's seamless long take immerses you in the tension - this Argentinian thriller struggles to fully captivate. The plot follows Pablo "El Galgo" Correa, a former hitman (played with grit by Sergio Podeley), as he's drawn back into crime. The moral complexity and systemic corruption are compelling in concept, but the execution feels uneven. Some scenes meander, and character depth takes a backseat to the film's ambitious structure. Still, it's a valiant effort that deserves praise for pushing boundaries.A 6/10 that's more fascinating than flawless.

..and find him eyeless at the mill with slaves.

We are seeing more of the one-shot works in the recent years and not many of them could be called a success ("Boiling Point" (2021) and "Long Day's Journey Into Night" (2018) surely would). This is such a good film I'd dare to say it being shot in such a way is secondary to everything else, but that would take away a lot of off the superb work the camera operator did here.I am not from South America so I'm not privy to inner workings of their troubled neighborhoods and gang problems, but this story couldn't have been told outside of such a setting. This hood in particular is an essential character in the story and after it all ends, I'm a hundred percent sure the gruesome parts of the story are taken from real life; the fairy-tale part, unfortunately, isn't. We only hear dogs and cats - they are behind tall walls. Everything is enclosed, only the streets are open, but surely not free. The story itself is told in the manner of Greek tragedies and ends up like (an implied) self-fulfilling prophecy. DOP doesn't care for such subtleties and there is no need for them - this street life is raw and so is camera work. Not once did the immersion break. Music is superb and perfectly blends into the narrative.English is not my first language and I feel sorry I couldn't put in words how much I liked it.I will recommend this film to everyone as one of the best of 2025. When I visit Argentina one day, I'd like to visit the streets where this was filmed. Best regards from Eastern Europe.

An incredible and spectacular film

An incredible adrenaline action film filmed in a single sequence shot. I saw it twice in different theaters, and I was surprised to get emotional again during the second time despite knowing its development and its ending. I think that we will rarely have the opportunity to see a film with the technical skill with which it was filmed and with a theme as profound as that when the "narcos" have taken over a humble neighborhood in which both the police and the political power do not intervene, only its honest inhabitants can expel them through the only language they understand: violence.Among the shocking aspects of the whole film, I highlight two things: 1) that it was filmed at night and on Maciel Island, a dangerous area next to Buenos Aires where the police do not enter, and 2) that the hero is a true anti-hero. A former hitman for the drug traffickers themselves and recently released from prison. A murderer who, unwittingly and only led by circumstances, redeems himself by confronting his former employers.A gem of a film, where filming in a sequence shot is not a technical resource added for commercial reasons. It was the only way to be able to film giving verisimilitude to the plot, although that meant giving up parts of the story.
