Plot summary

Good Bones is a comedic coming-of-age story set in the cutthroat world of Hamptons Real Estate. Danny O'Brien, 22, dedicates one last summer to his family's failing real estate agency, and to his father Joe's seemingly obsolete values: poetry, integrity, and community. The O'Briens are challenged - endangered - by heartless capitalist modernism, as practiced by the liars and cheaters at Superlative Properties, realtors to the Ultra-Wealthy and Fabulous. Danny complicates the game by falling in love with Clare, a beautiful and suspiciously sophisticated Superlative summer intern. All is framed by the mad swirl of "summer people" who party, sleep around and generally amuse themselves as they indulge in the excesses of "The Season." And key players chase the grand prize: the open auction, on Labor Day, of Tilden Point - the last great parcel of virgin land on the East Coast.

Pleasant movie about ordinary people fighting the rich

This is an entertaining movie, not outstanding, with the formula rich people bad, regular people good, good people must rescue us from those with evil intentions.Matthew Watson and Comfort Clinton do great jobs as the young leads. Danny and Clare get along well, and I mean REALLY well. We see as much of both of them as broadcast TV will allow. Other actors give memorable performances.Joe's competition is a jerk named Charles Schuyler with no moral values. I would say he has a potty mouth too but one of the words he might have said which we didn't hear would be perfectly acceptable on broadcast TV. I saw characters' mouth's blurred a lot when the sound went out. Sometimes this was enough to make it hard to understand what was going on.Another girl who isn't pretty but has a quirky personality is Hoonie. I don't know whether she is supposed to have a mental problem or some kind of disability. But she is memorable and we don't see enough of her. Danny has to help sell her house when her father has to move for a job promotion. It's a fixer upper as old as I am, and yet it's worth half a million. The scenes involving the sale are touching and meaningful. The movie's title is used at this time; a house might be in bad shape but have "good bones".Another quirky character is Carl Farnsworth. His son Henry helps him run a farm and they need Danny's help because temporary workers are needed for the harvest. Carl is a regular guy who doesn't fit in at all with the rich people of The Hamptons. He seems like someone who would have a farm where I live, in the South. I don't think he's becoming senile but he has trouble communicating. It might be his hearing.Tim Bohn wrote and directed and did a good job as the Professor who seemed to have come in to save the day but never quite makes his intentions clear.I have to conclude the actress in a commercial probably directed by Hugo is Kelli Bensimon. She does a great job but doesn't have much upstairs.Be sure and stay around for the closing credits (which move as slowly as any I've ever seen) because there is a blooper reel. If you wanted to see more of Carl, there he is.I wasn't crazy about some of the music, but there are some Caribbean musicians (probably reggae) who are quite interesting and I think they show up in the closing credits.I think this is worth seeing.

Not terrible but boring overall

Like one of the other reviewers say: The scenes involving the sale are touching and meaningful.

( Referring to a house that Danny secures the sale of). I agree with that.

Danny is a likeable realistic character who should keep acting.

Other than this the plot is the typical story of the devious rich buying property that they shouldn't.

The characters are not developed well and the script is lackluster. I will say however that the movie was filmed well.
