Every bit as terrible as you would assume...

Ugh, another horror rendering of a classic story. And this time it is "Peter Pan" getting royally screwed over. Can't claim to be having much of any grand expectancies for this particular movie from writer Harry Boxley and director Andrea M. Catinella. But with it being a movie that I had never heard about, and thus obviously never watched, and given my love of all things horror, of course I opted to give the movie a fair chance.Wow, this was even worse than I had initially feared it to be.Writer Harry Boxley put together a script and storyline that was just fully far out there. It was a script that had no proper contents in terms of an entertaining or believable storyline. And the characters felt like one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs. Thankfully writer Harry Boxley only used the names of the beloved characters from "Peter Pan", in all other aspects the storyline was original. But original doesn't equal entertaining, trust me.The one thing that "Hook" had going for it, was the fact that I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. I do enjoy watching unfamiliar and new talents, so that was a nice thing here. And the acting performances were fair enough, taking into consideration the limitations imposed on them by the inferior script. As for the killer in the movie, Hook as you will, well that character was a joke. I don't know what they were trying to accomplish with whatever stuff was on his face, but it looked like Papier-mâché made by a pre-school kid. It was just terrible.Should you happen to enjoy horror movies, do yourself a favor and don't waste 79 minutes on "Hook". Some of us virtually suffered through this, so you don't have to; you're quite welcome. My rating of director Andrea M. Catinella's 2025 movie "Hook" lands on a generous two out of ten stars.

Disappointed

I really wanted to like Hook (2025) because the concept is actually super cool, but unfortunately, the execution just didn't land. I get that it's a low-budget film, so I wasn't expecting mind-blowing effects or anything - but budget doesn't excuse bad acting, boring camera work, or a messy storyline. Most of the acting was rough, aside from Jay Robertson and Stephen Staley. Some scenes made no sense at all - like how James managed to shove an entire hook through someone's back like a sword, or how a girl kept crawling forever after getting her throat slit. It just felt like style over substance, and not in a good way. With stronger direction and more attention to story, this could have actually been a great indie horror.
