Plot summary

While doing community service, Jax Donovan meets a young man with Down Syndrome. He also befriends Bailey, and Juliette, and they forge a friendship that teaches them about love, life and forgiveness.

It's a very fine job

This movie has such a natural cadence, it's not over the top or pushy at all. It's a beautiful story about love, friendship, grief, and inclusion. The script is air tight and leaves no room for error - it's truly a masterpiece in its own right.The writers take a simple premise (a young man moving to a new school after the passing of his father) to a new level. After a scuffle with a school bully, Jax is given the option between suspension or volunteering at the after school buddy program. Naturally, Jax picks the club and meets a student named Charlie. The strongest part is how Charlie (who has Down Syndrome) and Jax (who is known for his athleticism) can relate to one another and yet also learn from each other.It's a gentile and entertaining movie that allows the characters to speak for themselves, instead of relying on an agenda. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Affecting coming of age film.

Nicely filmed in the Deltona area north of Orlando, it's an affecting coming of age film about a young man-Jax who is distraught after a family tragedy and a move to a new town/high school during his senior year. However, after hooking up with fellow schoolmate with Downs Syndrome-Charlie during community service, he forges a bond/friendship that helps him with overcoming grief, and to forgive and love again. Director Robin Hoffman (who also co-wrote the script) does a fine job observing her characters and creating a warm/heartwarming film about characters who look out for each other and express love. Even better is the joy of seeing good indie films that are filmed Florida utilizing local talent/crew and locations. This is a film with its heart in the right place and worth a look on Prime.
