Plot summary

After his impetuous musician girlfriend, Samantha, dies in an accident shortly after they had a fight (and nearly broke up), Ian Wyndham, a grief-stricken British businessman living in London gets a chance to relive the day all over again, in the hope of changing the events that led up to her getting killed.

Try And Change The Past

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Paul Nicholls are having a hectic day in London. He's got a big presentation at work, and she's playing in her music school's graduation concert. At the end, she breaks up with him, gets into a cab, and is killed. The next morning, Nicholls wakes up with Miss Hewitt next to him. The same things keep happening, but the details are different. Can he keep her both alive and in love with him?About two minutes into it, I thought this was pretty much a Hallmark Channel movie with a theatrical release budget, and began hoping it would be better than that. It definitely was. The fantastic elements led to character revelation, and the location shooting was a big plus, particularly a sequence shot in rocky Cumbria. It remains the sort of love story that is so soppy I can't really enjoy it, but it is very well done, with a very welcome small but key role by Tom Wilkinson.

IF only this would have been a good movie...

OK, I am biased on this one. Forced by the wife into searching a romantic movie, I found this one and was glad to see it was an indie flick about some people said it was good. In my book, indie implies at least novelty.

Alas, it was not to be. This movie is as full of clichés as all the other movies called If Only. I mean, not even the title is original for crying out loud! A love affair between a Brit and an American girl which has no humour, nothing really standing out (and I mean both music and acting), with a title that says it all (yet another movie about going back on a particular moment and trying to change it)

And no, not even the wife liked it. Could it be that this film was produced by Hewitt because it was the only way she could be cast into a movie or allowed to sing?
