Plot summary

In 1763, Britain defeated France in the worldwide Seven Years War - referred to in the American Colonies as The French and Indian War. As a result, the French abandoned America, leaving the Native population who had sided with the French to fear the British would seek revenge. Ottawa Chief Pontiac convinced many tribes they needed to strike first. Some did so willingly, others were forced to fight. Their ultimate target was Fort Pitt. The combatants on both sides deployed unconventional and often brutal strategies and tactics. Colonel Henry Bouquet, with a ragtag group of British soldiers, Scottish Highlanders and American volunteers, was tasked with trying to save the hundreds of men, women and children facing certain death - or worse - in Fort Pitt. The little-known Battle of Bushy Run changed the course of world history... This is that story.

Awful title, reasonable period action drama

I enjoyed this film despite it's awful title - why not just call it 'The Battle of Bushy Run'? The story - which I was previously unaware of - is well worth telling. I like period / historical films that dare to cover conflicts that are often overlooked. There is a good mix of characters, although the acting is a bit wooden / forced at times. The main hero is a likeable chap. The action scenes are well done at a small-scale. The uniforms are splendid - a little too good during the campaign. The film does lack the 'threat' of 'Last of the Mohicans' and the heroics of 'The Alamo'.I'd love to see the story re-told with a bigger budget and a few star names added (no disrespect to the actors in this version that did a creditable job).

Poor acting, low budget, epic story

There's a ton of things to both like and dislike about this terribly titled movie. The acting is generally poor. No one can deliver a line to save their lives. The accents are curiously mid Atlantic and not British in any way.The low budget doesn't help the battle scenes and the film's action scenes. Indeed the climatic battle sequence is confusing. However, the general story is good. The characters and their motivations are well established. The characters are given nuance and purpose.Overall, if you can get past the 'level' of execution, their is a half decent movie here, even though it appears to be made the independent war reenactment enthusiasts.

Pretty good considering

I thoroughly enjoy period films like this so when I had the opportunity to watch it, I grabbed it. Checking out the rating here on IMDb first. First impressions by the first 10 minutes left me wondering how bad the film was going to be because the acting seemed to lack soul and real emotion but I kept on and glad I did. Not sure if I became accustomed to the low level of acting but by the end of the film, I actually enjoyed what I'd watched. The costumes were amazing as was the amount of detail that went into the scenery and everything else. A couple things were a tad off-putting such as the unnecessary CGI blood sprays, scene of a high rank squirming on his chair as he spoke very early on, couple clips of music just didn't seem to match the scene at all, the fighting scenes I thought were well put together considering I don't recognise a single name in the cast. So, overall, apart from 1 scene not really making much sense I quite enjoyed this. If the acting could have been more solid I'd be happy to give this more than 6/10.
