A kid's movie compared to the manga, but still manages to deliver some goods.

Mai Chan's Daily Life is possibly the most infamous Ero-Guro (gore porn) manga ever made and I was excited and little skeptical about this live-action adaptation. Seeing as some of the scenarios depicted in the manga are not only extremely over-the-top and ridiculous (the tiger scene) but some would be illegal to recreate with real-life actors (the depraved acts involving young children). Indeed, this was Teletubbies compared to the manga, but it does still manage to squeeze in a palatable amount of Ero-Guro goodness in its slim running time.Finger-chopping, high heels inserted into open wounds and eroticised disembowelment are just a few of the niceties that lie within. Of coarse, there is also no shortage of titillation and maid fetishism for those who are into that.Clocking in at barely an hour, the movie doesn't outstay its welcome, and it doesn't pretend to be anything its not. I would love to see what the director could do with a bigger budget. Sequel maybe?

Not bad, but..

If you threw about Y300 million at this, it would be a great work of horror. It never touched on that the master rents poor Mai out for money to be tortured, and the fx would have been sooo much better.I think it's a good try for the money they had, but I have to only rate a 6, just because it could have easily been the new Texas Chainsaw or better.

Plotless but graphic extreme horror effort

After answering an online ad, a woman arrives at a couple's mansion home to be their live-in maid, but as they begin to explore an unusual psychosexual relationship with each other the couple discovers their maid's strange new ability may allow them to delve further into their sickness than they expected. This was a generally uncomfortable if flawed genre effort. This one works best when working on what appears to be the main purpose of this one in its intense scenes of degradation and sexual torture. Opening on the couple humiliating one of their servants to the point she urinates on herself before being gruesomely dismembered, the stage is set immediately for the kind of film this one will eventually become. The fact that this one goes for the extreme and over-the-top display of bloodletting throughout here as time goes on and her ability is discovered allows the film to wallow in the kind of overt sexual fantasy that comes from their newfound ability to torture her without remorse. The perverse nature of what's going on and the willingness to partake in such sexualized role-play that is featured throughout here is quite graphic and uncomfortable with how much she's put through in order for the kinky fetishes to be explored here. Combined with the constant nudity and violence here, these features generate some enjoyable elements on display. This one does have some issues about it. The main problem here is the at-times distractingly obvious limitations imposed on this on by the low-budget which can become a major detrimental point against it. The absolutely irritating ability to switch between color and black-and-white photography for a lot of the more graphic scenes as a form of artistic expression is something to get over here, much like the cheap camera-work that never once belies its home-video origins. Since these are features brought about for the actual setup and execution of the film as a whole, these become running problems throughout the film as a whole which has to be taken into account as much as the cheap gore effects. The carnage and brutality present here in concept will undoubtedly win over instead of the execution which will leave a lot to be desired with their rather underwhelming look and effect which is a problem considering their frequent use throughout the multiple dismemberments and mutilations that take place. For some, this won't be an issue but for most others, this will be a rather major drawback to get over which holds this one back.Rated Unrated/NC-17: Extreme Graphic Violence, Nudity, and Graphic Language.
