The Emmanuel Goldstein of our time

Because this is a film and not the book it only hits the highlights of what Noam Chomsky is trying to say.It starts with "They who have put out the people's eyes reproach them for their blindness" - John Milton-1642I have heard more of the detractor's arguments than the actual words of Chomsky. So, it was time to at least watch this 2 hr and 45-minute documentary to get a general feel for what the controversy is all about.Unfortunately, this documentary is in sound bite form so you get some "tads" of what is being said before changing the subject.A good percentage of the documentary covers the goings-on in East Timor. The rest is an aggregate of a Chomsky biography more than just a philosophy. He talks about the elite and how they are "manufacturing consent" to accomplish their goal. However, after reading 1984 I have the nagging feeling that he is the Emmanuel Goldstein of our day, telling us what we already know. The plebeians are tactfully manipulated on many levels including the press.
