Plot summary

Superbly acted by Mille Dinesen

I was drawn to this light hearted comedy because Mille, one of my favourite comic actresses was in it. Her portrayal of Rita in the series was so enjoyable I looked forward to seeing her again.Cecilie (played by Dinesen)and Andreas are a professional middle class couple who have heartbreakingly tried multiple times to get pregnant and failed.As a last resort they turn to a fertility clinic.At the same time we have a new age woman in her thirties Liv(Petersen) and her boyfriend Malthe( Dalsgaard) also seeking help from the same fertility clinic.Somehow the eggs ( conveniently post fertilisation) get swapped and each woman becomes pregnant carrying the other couple's baby.Most of the movie takes place during the pregnancy and how they navigate through all the stipulations each expectant mother puts on the other. The development of the relationship between the two dads and the understanding and closeness between the two women and how they give each other strength during this difficult time, navigating the difficult relationships they each have with their own mothers is beautifully portrayed.Cecilia's relationship with her niece is so sweet and so full of longing it brought tears to my eyes.I hope Mille continues with her acting career for many years to come.

Fertility comedy in the Danish way. Here at home, the folk comedy shows time and time again that it adapts to the times and themes, but basically it is old wine in new bottles. Therefore, it is not so surprising that films such as "Lykkelige utsunden", "Esker dig for tidden" and now "Bytte byte baby" have been broadcast over the last six months. Because they look alike. Very much. You have to strike while the iron is hot. In general, our four main characters are nicely portrayed, but they do lack some nuance.

Bytte bytte baby" is a segmented genre film at its most calculated. Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg's film is aimed at the women who walk with a baby on their brain. Before, during and right after. And who can't think about anything else. Not at all. Because this is a portrait of a world where all people, without exception, don't think about anything else and can relate to the baby and relationship problems, translated as a bizarre fertility recruitment film. The action is created by the attempt at comedy by the conflicts and prejudices that emerge from cultural clashes. Young versus old. Rich and poor. Highly educated and artisans. Subdued men and strong women. Surplus men and hysterical women. Vegans and meat eaters. Colony garden on Amager and giant villa on Strandvejen. Grøn Tuborg and Riesling. So everyone can join.
