Not terrible but also not good

I'm not sure how to review this movie. It's not a badly made movie. It's well shot. The acting ranges from fine for a low budget movie to fairly good. The sound is fine. The effects are a bit cheap looking but not bad for a low budget movie. I have certainly seen far worse. The movie just never comes together into anything. There's some philosophical stuff. There's some UFO stuff. There's a conspiracy. None of it ever gels together into anything much. The middle just kind of meanders around. The ending doesn't amount to much of anything. None of it adds up to much of anything. The sum is less than its parts.

Skateboards, UFOs, and awkward "teens"

There are a couple of things we need to consider when reviewing this movie.First, it was written and directed by one of the members of the rock band Blink-182. This film is one of the few projects where he has taken on both roles. His personal interests-ranging from skateboarding to UFOs and the paranormal-are everywhere in the film.Second, this is clearly intended to be a teen sci-fi comedy, but it doesn't always hit the mark. At times, it wasn't much of a comedy at all, while at other times, it was pure comedy. It sits somewhere awkwardly in between. The cast included some seasoned sci-fi actors, such as Casper Van Dien from Starship Troopers, but the characters who were supposed to be teens were clearly played by much older actors. When the mother of the main character's girlfriend asked if they had a licensed driver among them, it felt especially awkward-since all the "teens" looked like they were well over 30.Third, the film had way too many types of "monsters of California." There were ghosts, Bigfoot, and aliens. While it's a comedy-or at least supposed to be-this might be acceptable, but I feel it would have been better to stick to just one type of otherworldly creature, namely aliens, which played the biggest part in the story. On the positive side, it wasn't that bad. I've certainly seen worse sci-fi and sci-fi comedy movies than Monsters of California. Also, the special effects were surprisingly good. So, let's just say watching this movie is an enjoyable way to spend an evening-but you don't need to feel bad if something else comes up and you miss it.

Douche bags of california

So I managed 49 minutes of this slacker scifi adventure? /comedy.

It had a good idea in the beginning but limped along and wasn't really sure what it was going to be maybe a comedy nah nothing funny here!

The cast were amiable like a noughties scooby doo gang but minus the doo.

The legendary casper van dien makes a appearance as naval intelligence men in black kind of character but he is sorely wasted on a lacklustre script and plot. Scowling through his lines.

Do yourself a favour watch the first twenty minutes ghost house segment then cut and run you won't miss anything else noteworthy.

So to sum up scifi no, comedy no, adventure definitely not, the four stars are for the leads sister in a bikini see where I'm going with this just blah blah blah!!
