Plot summary

Tommy has just joined the cast of the top-rated kids' show, "Captain Mike's Mystery Monsters," and is anxious to find out just how the special effects crew gets the monsters to work. Imagine his surprise when he discovers they're not special effects at all! Adding to the situation, the monsters' original owner, evil Queen Mara, has returned to Earth to reclaim her property and take revenge on Captain Mike for stealing them.

OK for younger kids - maybe.

If your kids are aged in single digits they may well enjoy this movie. You may too, but on a different level: you'll find it falls squarely and completely into that group of movies that are so bad they're actually enjoyable. The script is ludicrous, the acting is laughable, the special effects (if you can call them 'effects') are ridiculous. Honestly, who makes these movies and why??? I feel sorry for the kids who act in these things. No doubt they sign on expecting it will kick start a career in movies. I wish them luck.This is definitely good for a laugh, but that's about it.

that's the most accurate description of the FBI that I've ever heard

Charles Band's "Mystery Monsters" is one of those second- (or third-)rate TV movies made to appeal to the tykes. It focuses on a kids' show whose grotesque stars turn out to be monsters from another dimension whose queen is after them. Yeah, it's obvious that they didn't put much if any thought into this.I didn't give it a one-star rating simply because the sheer weirdness and over-the-top cringey acting makes it the sort of movie that you have to see to believe. Well, if you can tolerate something this lowbrow. If you expect anything even remotely intelligent, then you'll want to avoid this like the plague.
