This one has an interesting premise, but ultimately fell flat. The first time he kills her, it's a bit of a shock, but then the story becomes more and more repetitive and predictable. After he has done the deed three or four times and it has become increasingly obvious that he killed the original in the first place, I realized I was only half way through the movie. While the visuals and the acting are engaging enough, I didn't see myself sitting through the rest of it. What didn't help is that the whole concept of having to stab an android in the neck for turning it off is a bit ridiculous, since there surely must be less gruesome ways to operate a kill switch. What happened to remote controls?

A different type of love story
Set in space, where only the very wealthy can afford to live, Naoki loves Mayumi. Except Mayumi is an android. Naoki grew up in a violent home, and his father would extinguish cigars on Naoki's skin. This did not make him a nice person, and after marrying Mayumi, he became very abusive, but naturally apologized and promised not to do it again, until he did. One time, he winds up killing her. He had an android created to be like Mayumi, and could select how much of her memory he would create. It would be his perfect wife. But each time, there would always be some flaw in the memory, and he would destroy the android vowing to keep trying until he got his vision of what he thought Mayumi was. Sometimes she would know things that she shouldn't, based on when her memory was constructed. He thought he finally had it all figured out with Mayumi 3.0. Unfortunately, while one now gets more background to help fill in gaps, it also takes much too long to get there.
