Clueless. They are mostly proving the critics right

Okey... heres the thing. I do think these two do love each other and they are not bad people, but most likely very deluded in many ways. The problem with Durek is that he fundamentally does not understand why most norwegians dont like him (not including the 0.5% that are actual racists) and has no intent to even try to understand. He makes it clear with his statements here that he believes the kingdom of Norway should bend to his will and just take his controversial beliefs on without question. In fact he find our social culture "disgusting". He gives off the vibe that he has NO respect for the history and traditions of our country and royal family and the national pride and love that they represent. This would all be totally fine and he is allowed to hate all of it, but why then are they insisting on still being "royals" and having a "royal wedding"? Just opt out completly, move to LA, do yoga and keep to yourselves. This documentary is surely a massive breach of the agreement they have with the king? Complete lack of respect, class and humility... I dont think 99.9% of norwegians would have any problem with him being black if he was convincingly kind, humble and respectfull towards our culture, traditions and beatiful country that so many have fought, bled and sacrificed for.

Should've been shelved when the royal family didn't want to participate

It's one sided, and when Shaman Durek's accusations and perceived situations are this grave, I feel it's unethical to finish the film without a response from the accused. The King and Queen didn't want to participate, which I respect personally. Sadly, neither the producer nor the director decided to pull the plug and continued to let Shaman Durek go on a rant and present the royal family the way he does. That's one thing. The other thing is the editing. In this process they decided to include all of this in the final film.Where is the ethics in documentary filmmaking in that process?Ethics is a huge part of documentary filmmaking, and sadly this is a failed attempt, and prioritized entertainment before ethics. But I suppose it's that: this isn't a documentary, it's an elongated reality show. And as a reality show, yeah I'll give it 3 stars.

Yay - another royal love-to-hate reality soap

I grew up amidst rich esoteric eccentrics, and some things rang familiar, like Durek Verrett's past life memory of being an Egyptian royal. Why was no one ever a farmer in a prior life? Statistically much more likely. The fact that I've already met a dozen Cleopatra reincarnations does make one wonder...Racism is covered one third into the docu, which seems fair enough. Always needing to negotiate your place, Verrett explains - yeah, that sucks. Racism is real and terrible, just like sexism (many women can relate to this negotiating too), and other kinds of discrimination. But in Verrett's case, not all the hate is coming from that corner.Mostly, I think, the issues people have with him are not about him being black, gay, flamboyant or even American, but a freaky, unethical, spotlight-craving con-artist, and his privileged, psychic-wannabe princess an attention-seeking fruitcake.I'm guessing this documentary, while strongly edited in their favour, will only strengthen these impressions. That said, I do prefer this improbable couple to the other "royal rebels" they compare themselves to: Harry & Meghan. Because at least they own their craziness. Whereas self-serving, self-righteous, self-everything H&M bored me to death, the follies of these two self-absorbed zanies kept me upright. An extra star for that.
