Plot summary

Crystalynn had escaped her redneck roots until her sister's high school graduation calls her home. She hides the truth, lies and leaves the big city and her jealous boyfriend Ben behind, or so she thinks. Ben pursues her into the deep South only to find himself lost in a wacky world of beer drinking bubbas, a trash-talkin' Granny, a sex-sizzlin' sister and a loony but loveable local radio DJ who is out to win Crystalynn back. Mash it all up and you've got a Southern fried recipe for laughter.

Rooted itself in the end

This film had the potential to be a pretty good flick, but after a decent beginning and middle, it sticks tobacco up its backside in the end and chews too hard!The story's about a pretty lady who is proposed to off the bat, by her boyfriend, and it startles her as she has a bit of a secret. The secret being that her family are a bunch of southerners, aka rednecks and its embarrassing to admit.Whilst invited home by her sister for her highschool graduation, she's planned not to invite her boyfriend, but he overhears a phone call and suspects she's cheating or he's blown it, or whatever, so he plans to secretly track her down to where she's gone for the weekend.Along the way, there are some funny parts scattered through the film, ranging from the girls' family doing or saying humorous scenes, to the boyfriend stumbling into trouble while trying to find her, and various characters around the town.But then it comes off the rails in the end when everything is quickly rushed. Developing stories are kicked aside, and a God awful memory montage of just the boyfriend looking for her causes a raised eyebrow and nausea as the film abruptly ends in a WTF way... sure, certain films need to stick to a certain runtime, but come on, did the makers of this think it had a chance of being shown in theatres?Maybe they ran out of money in the budget and just quickly wrapped it up?There's only half a potentially decent movie here that established some interesting characters that could've been expanded on more to make something good here, but instead opted for a God awful blink and miss it ending that leaves you disappointed that so much looked like it was building up to a great climax, but fell off the tightrope without netting to its death.Maybe it'd have been better being a mini-series? Or a continued sequel? But, they buggered that up with the finale of this one and its God awfully bad, rushed, nauseating, unresolved, unsatisfying ending.

North Carolina's Chicken Friend PG 13 Napoleon Dynamite

Seems like the whole town turned out to make this movie. Best Supporting Character: "Lou". Lots of cussing for an otherwise down home hallmark style plot. Worth a watch, especially if you have "Redneck Roots".
