Plot summary

In a world where Santa is real and wants to drum up some holiday spirit, two of Santa’s elves, Chuck and Debbie, devise a plan to grant one human on Earth three wishes to kickstart the holidays. Unfortunately, that human is Erin, who has lost all affection for the season. Even a blind date set up by her sister, with the affable and charming Sam, won’t change her mind about Christmas. But when she makes the mistake of wishing Christmas would “just disappear,” Erin wakes up to a world where the holiday never existed! Horrified, she realizes that she’s taken away everyone’s joy, so she enlists Sam to help her reinvent the festivities from scratch. In the process, Erin learns just how much this holiday and its traditions have meant to everyone around her - and how much Sam has come to mean to her.

Many amusing moments

Two elves convince (an unconventional) Santa Claus to let them rekindle Christmas spirit by giving someone three wishes ... as long as the wishes aren't outrageous ... like wishing for a million dollars.The only issue with the movie is that it takes far too long to get to the crux of the story, which is when our female lead wishes away Christmas. This is a bit too similar to another 2023 film where the female lead ALSO wishes away Christmas. In both movies, they have to start convincing people to take the holiday back on ... albeit in slightly different ways.But ... no outrageous wish ... yet wishing away Christmas is allowed. LOLThis movie doesn't really hit its stride until the third wish which cancels out Christmas and she has to try to recreate the holiday using whatever they can find, since dedicated Christmas decorations don't exist. That gets a bit humorous.Dialogue is also good. Definitely worth the watch.

Hallmark with an idea

Christmas is having a hard time. Belief in Santa is crashing. Debbie (Bailey Stender) and Chuck (Patrick Thomas O'Brien) are elves with an idea. Grant three wishes to one person chosen at random. Santa picks one grumpy Erin Smithson (Rachael Leigh Cook). She's a freelance photographer with no kids. She is set up on a blind date with Sam (Sam Page). In frustration, her last wish is for Christmas to disappear.

Hallmark tries to do something a little more imaginative than the usual big city gal going to a small town to hook up with the local hunk. I like the two elves. Rachael Leigh Cook is good at playing both the grump and being hopeful. This is pretty good especially for Hallmark. I was actually paying attention with this one.
