Plot summary

In the rural outskirts of Gaza City a small community of farmers, the Samouni extended family, is about to celebrate a wedding. It's going to be the first celebration since the latest war. Amal, Fuad, their brothers and cousins have lost their parents, their houses and their olive trees. The neighborhood where they live is being rebuilt. As they replant trees and plow fields, they face their most difficult task: piecing together their own memory. Through these young survivors' recollections, Samouni Road conveys a deep, multifaceted portrait of a family before, during and after the tragic event that changed its life forever.

A horrifying exploration of the true life stories in Gaza, Palestine

This documentary part real life part animated movie depicts the horrifying story of the samouni's in Gaza. An open air prison where atrocities are committed on a daily basis by zionists. This movie needs to be shown to anyone supporting the Israeli regime.

The aftermath of the Gaza war of 2009 is explored here but the Zionist occupation and atrocities continue to this day.

Nothing has changed 14 years later. They rain death from the sky then invade with their tanks and guns. Wreaking havoc, orphaning children, windowing women and creating generations of misery.

This movie is 2 hours long, the story depicted is 75 years and ongoing.

Human Face of a Conflict

This film, part documentary, part animated dramatic recreation, tells the story of a Palestinian family living in Gaza City during and after the war in 2009. The family is shown re-building their homes and their lives in the devastation following the war, while the war itself is shown in black & white animated flashbacks. The film also includes archival drone footage of the war, which lends veracity to the animated sequences.

This is complex filmmaking, dealing with complex issues, yet it is ultimately a very simple human story of adversity and survival in an inescapable situation. Being told from the Palestinian point of view, no doubt there is a bias here, and many may vehemently disagree with the way the story is framed. That aside, it is hard not to feel deep sympathy for the family portrayed, who have experienced such loss, and question why this conflict never seems to end.

This film puts a very real human face on the civilians impacted by the conflict in Palestine, and provides a depth of understand not accessible via news reports. For that alone this is a valuable film.
