Good follow-up to "Samurai Wolf"

Highly enjoyable sequel to the excellent Samurai Wolf. "Furious Wolf" this time is caught in the intrigue between a crooked gold mine owner and a mysterious swordsman who resembles his long dead father. Once again there's a beautiful woman involved and lots of furious sword fights. The Samurai Wolf films have a number of similarities to the Lone Wolf and Son series of the seventies and a bit of debt to the Zatoichi series. First, the eccentric sword work of Furious Wolf is very much in the vein of Zatoichi while not imitating it. Second, the geysers of blood that erupt from vanquished villains foretell the much more absurd blood-letting of Lone Wolf.Once again the photography is excellent and the cast is as good. The story is a little convoluted and Furious Wolf is less in control of the situation compared to the first film. Also there are strong thematic repetitions that shouldn't have been so obvious. This is probably one of the reasons Samurai Wolf didn't continue as a series. The curious western tinged musical theme from the first film is repeated over and over for better or worse. Gosha's direction is less inspired this time but still great.Recommended but see the first film before this.

More developed than the Wolf's first adventure

Kiba (the Wolf) (Isao Natsuyagi) is back, this time caught up in a plot to steal the gold from a mine that belongs to the Shogun. As a sequel to Natsuyagi's first outing as the 'Samurai Wolf', the film has a similar 'ramen-western' aesthetic, copious blood-letting and casual killings, but the storyline is more complex and features a number of interesting characters and intertwined narratives. Once again, Natsuyagi is quite good in the standard 'anti-hero' role and, like his spaghetti-western counterparts, is made to suffer for our sins before rough justice prevails. In general, I found it more entertaining and less predictable than the inaugural 'Samurai Wolf' adventure.

Samurai Wolf is back in great style!!

Boosted by the smashing success the producers wisely put Samurai Wolf in another journey adventure again, this turn he bumps into a captive bandit who intents revenge against a cheater goldmine owner whose betrayed him, also a scheming girl and a young looney girl for some unknown reason.By releasing the captive crook it's triggers many fights and clashes, ends up on final battle at goldmine where all things fit in, fine entertainment that should be shot in color to amplify the offering, certainly wasn't in the same level of its forerunner, even so it's enough strong for an upcoming series. Thanks for readingResume:First watch: 2024 / How many: 1 / Source: DVD / Rating: 7.5.
