Really Creepy

This is the best horror movies in 2022! The creepy atmospheres is there. Great storyline sequel from previous movie. The acting is great. Jump scare everywhere. Suspense from the start until the end. Even though ending should be more better. Well done.

Between Scary Level and Storyline...

While the first movie focused on the storyline and building the mystery, we were kinda hoping to get all the answers on the second one. However, the director seems to be trying to drag the answers into the next instalment and leaving us with more questions. This second instalment of Pengabdi Setan, Communion, seems more focused on the 'nail-biting, hiding-behind-hands' terror aspect of horror movies. YES, it's scary. However watching this movie is like riding a roller-coaster. The adrenaline rush while watching it is there. However there was nothing much to talk about or discuss afterwards. Audience left with more questions, interpretations and It was sorta like a relief feeling that it was over.Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie. For a suspense and horror fans in Indonesia, both Pengabdi Setan is a must watch. I believe they set a new standard in Indonesian horror cult.Joko Anwar really knows how to play the game in building the tempo, terror and tension to the final outburst. Although sometimes some scenes felt too surreal and suspended my disbelief.Cinematography is a top notch as usual. Camera works are amazing and how he shot some scenes were genius. Location set, props, wardrobe, hair style etc. I was amazed with how Joko injected some of 80's history into the storyline. That's smart. The opening at Boscha was genius and explosive. Promising something very eerie for the next two hours.Though there are a few minor flaws and plot holes in the story, such are language choices (c'mon man, nobody use "cuy" or "bokap/nyokap" in that era), repetitiveness from the 1st movie, and too much strobe lights, but for me, there will never be a perfect horror movie.Pengabdi Setan 2 is not better than 1st, but the film is best at recapturing the classic horror. I just wish the storyline could be stronger, or balanced with all the roller-coaster level. The craft is amazing and the locations are terrific. Pengabdi Setan 2 doesn't is not a game changer, but because of the filmmakers' ambition and love for the genre, it is a marvellous experience. So stop complaining about this is missing or that is missing. Just enjoy the movie. It's worth a watch. It's been a long time that a movie has scared me this badly...

An electrifying ride

SATAN'S SLAVE 2:COMMUNION is a terrific horror film which has a great atmosphere and succeeds immensely due to the competent direction of Joko Anwar. The plot is good but could have used more focused writing. The pace is slow but it methodically builds towards a tremendous finale although the information-dense climax leaves a lot to be desired in terms of the resolution of various threads, due to that the film feels a bit like a filler for the third part of the franchise. If you want to see how to effectively build a great thrilling scene, look no further than the elevator crash scene and how Anwar builds it to a great crescendo using superb camerawork and sublime cuts. Also, the scene of Tari's prayer is exceptionally conceived and the use of close-ups and long takes is exemplary. On a standalone basis, it's still a solid horror film with an effective mood, awesome technical aspects, brilliant acting and excellent scares but could have been much better only if the plot gave us some idea of what we are dealing with here. Let's hope the next part gives answers to those burning questions. But for now, I am extremely contented by what was offered and would easily term it better than its predecessor simply due to its expansive scope and the way it organically builds upon its predecessor without falling into the traps of redundancy and ridiculousness.Just go for it!
