Plot summary

On the eve of the French Revolution, two town officials confront the Buckriders - a criminal gang who appear to ride on flying goats with the Devil - but along the way they will face deceit, corruption, betrayal and finally each other.

Beautiful shots, good story, history is repeating itself.

I enjoyed the movie very much. A very meaningfull story line, which shows us, that history unfortunately, is repeating itself. Beautiful shots, with little pieces of art in it. An interesting movie about the dark pages of history in Limburg, at the end of the 18th Century. A story that is still a mysterie. I enjoyed it that is spoken in the regional language, and not the Dutch language. It makes it more authentic. A lot of effort is made of looking it authentic, with the very small budget there was. It is a story that needs to be told. It has a lot of similarities whit the witch hunt in the 16th and 17th century.

The acting, pacing, lack of any emotional depth...

Zondebokken offers a compelling story that hits home, showcasing the sad truth of history repeating itself. Set in Limburg during the late 18th century, the film explores a narrative filled with mystery, making it a captivating choice for anyone into historical themes.The cinematography is solid, but I wouldn't have opted for a lack of artistic flair like director did. Using the regional language for dialogue gives it an authentic vibe, pulling viewers into the cultural setting and enhancing the storytelling.Even with a tight budget, the filmmakers have done good job of keeping things real throughout the production. This commitment shows through in how the film tackles its historical themes, especially the connections to the witch hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries. It highlights the darker aspects of history, reminding us why these stories are important to share and remember.Unfortunately, Zondebokken has its share of issues: the acting, pacing, lack of any emotional depth, and a storyline that sometimes strays off course.
