This romantic film was a bit disappointing for me. I liked the tropical setting and I enjoyed the profession of jewelry designer...especially for a man, because there are a lot of them, I liked that the male lead kept fit by running with a friend (who seemed sane), I liked the little boutique that the sisters ran...and the diy wedding to save money.
What I wasn't wild about...in fact became quite disturbed about was the films own suggestion that the two leads are living a reverse Cinderella story where the male lead is Cinderella and the female lead is the prince...except it made no sense since she is poor and he is rich. The only real parallel to Cinderella is that our female lead doesn't know that the male lead is the heir apparent to the jewelry business and that his mean boss is actually his mother. They did use it to play all the way out to our male lead wearing a tiara and that leading to the brilliant (or in my opinion terrible) idea of them designing a wedding jewelry line for men...and we get to watch as our female lead proceeds to draping the male in forehead chains, bracelets and necklaces. This really made me uncomfortable, turning me off of the romance. Sadly it felt unnecessary for the romance as a whole.
I have no problem with non-heteronormative relationships, but I feel that should be transparent from the get go...instead of trying to manipulate a heteronormative relationship into something that it is not. Kind of the having your cake and eating it too principal. Just commit to telling that story and there will be an audience.
Not a recommendation from me, for the reasons stated above.
