Surprisingly deep

Parents, eh? They ruin everything, don't they? I mean instead of doing that why not just throw some contraceptives at her and then you can have some peace. Well of course not, not in those times.Still, I can't believe Chen Li, she took me completely by surprise. Twice.This movie was for me to ogle Takeshi Kaneshiro, which is exactly what I did and I had ample opportunity, he did not disappoint. As for his character I wasn't placing much faith in him to be honest so he also took me by surprise with his kind of steadfastness and loyalty. In fact this simple, naive puppy love story turned into something of a complete surprise by the end. So maybe these are the great love stories that we hear and see people talk about. Not the happy endings but the deep friendships filled with tenderness and care and missing each other while living completely separate lives that we cannot give up. Not a happy ending but not a sad one either and still those pictures of the sky made me cry dammnit.

A Film for those who have fallen in love before......

A female director (Chang) decides to make a autobiographical film on her love life and we see it through the use of flashbacks and brilliant intercutting. Leung plays the younger Chang as she goes through a relationship with Kaneshiro which spans 3 decades. Tender and touching, the film is filled with memorable scenes and lines as it follows the couple through the meandering river that is love. An unforgettable film especially for those who have been in love before....the finale will definitely wet many eyes.
