absolute trash

Dont waste your time, this movie is garbage. Trashy movies have a special place in the world of entertainment. While they may not win any Academy Awards, there's a certain guilty pleasure in sitting down with friends, a big bowl of popcorn, and a trashy flick like "Crimson Carnage." This over-the-top action-horror flick is a rollercoaster of ridiculousness that keeps you entertained from start to finish, despite its many flaws.

Plot (or lack thereof)

The plot of "Crimson Carnage" is as thin as a piece of paper, but that's part of the charm. It follows a grizzled cop, Detective Jack Steel (played by an over-the-top action hero wannabe), who is on a quest to stop a bloodthirsty vampire cult from taking over the world. The vampires, led by a seductive, yet utterly forgettable villain, are on the verge of summoning a powerful demon from the depths of hell. This basic plot setup serves as a flimsy excuse for non-stop action, gratuitous violence, and one-liners that would make Schwarzenegger cringe.

Over-the-Top Action Sequences

"Crimson Carnage" shines in its action sequences, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Explosions, gunfights, and car chases are so over-the-top that they venture into the realm of absurdity. There's a scene where Detective Steel takes on an entire horde of vampires with nothing but a crossbow, some garlic, and a wooden stake, all while riding a motorcycle through a burning building. It's so ridiculous that it's hard not to laugh.

Terrible Dialogue and One-Liners

The script is riddled with terrible dialogue and cringe-worthy one-liners. Detective Steel delivers lines like, "I don't drink wine, but I do drink blood," with a straight face that's meant to be tough but ends up being unintentionally hilarious. The lack of subtlety in the dialogue is part of the film's charm - you can't help but shake your head and chuckle at the audacity of it all.

Overacting Galore

The cast of "Crimson Carnage" seems to have taken their cues from the school of overacting. From the melodramatic vampire queen to the ham-fisted performance by Detective Steel, the actors appear to be competing to see who can deliver the most exaggerated performance. This adds to the film's unintentional comedic appeal, and you'll find yourself wondering if the director told them to "act more ridiculous."

Special Effects That Belong in the '90s

The special effects in "Crimson Carnage" are on par with a low-budget '90s action movie. The practical effects are cheesy, the CGI is laughably bad, and the gore is turned up to 11. In one scene, a vampire's head explodes like a watermelon after being staked through the heart. If you're a fan of practical effects, you might actually find these elements endearing in a nostalgic, retro kind of way.

A Cinematic Rollercoaster

"Crimson Carnage" is the kind of trashy movie that knows exactly what it is and doesn't apologize for it. It takes you on a wild cinematic rollercoaster filled with clichés, outrageous characters, and enough explosions to rival Michael Bay. It's the kind of movie where logic and physics take a backseat, and you're just along for the wild, unpredictable ride.

So Bad It's Good

The term "so bad it's good" perfectly encapsulates "Crimson Carnage." It's a movie that revels in its own trashiness and doesn't pretend to be something it's not. In a world of polished, big-budget blockbusters, it's refreshing to have a film that's so unabashedly and proudly terrible. You might groan at the absurdity one moment and cheer for the action hero antics the next. It's a movie that's meant to be watched with a group of friends who can share in the laughter and disbelief.

In Conclusion

"Crimson Carnage" is a trashy movie lover's dream come true. It's a chaotic blend of over-the-top action, laughable special effects, and a plot that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If you're looking for a film that will make you question your taste in movies while simultaneously providing hours of entertainment, "Crimson Carnage" is the way to go. It's a guilty pleasure that knows how to embrace its trashy identity and delivers a memorable, if not entirely coherent, cinematic experience. So, grab your popcorn, gather your friends, and get ready for a wild ride through the world of trashy cinema.

Somewhat flawed for what it is but still has some likable factors

After several strange incidents, a woman and her friends decide to take a trip to help get her mind off her struggles, but along the way, they discover that she's been possessed by a Native American spirit seeking revenge for various misdeeds committed against him in the past and must try to stop it.

Overall, this was a bit of an odd and disjointed if still somewhat enjoyable effort. Among the films' brighter features is the central idea at play here involving the idea of the reincarnated spirit. The early incidents surrounding the repeated murder attempts and the drawings that signal something strange going on which is soon clued into the extravagant backstory of the cold open that shows what's really going on gives this a fun enough starting point. The resulting lead-in with the fateful trip and heading out to the location where the original events took place that helps to speed up the possible connection with the reincarnation possession serves this well and makes some bit of sense. That serves the film well when it gets to the crazy finale where all the action pretty much takes place. Being granted with some solid lead-up involving the ghostly warrior following them around while they're in the house and getting some chilling moments forcing them to do things against their will, there's a lot more to like here once it starts unleashing its full powers leading to some solid supernatural action here with full-on possession, manipulating bodies against their natural means and other gruesome acts leaving some solid gore and carnage amongst the chilling sequences. It's just enough to raise this one up overall with some enjoyable features. There are some pretty big issues here that drag the film down, though. The main issue here is a highly underwhelming and stifling pace that really makes it a struggle to get going or remain interesting throughout. Far too much of the film consists of the group hanging out around the house trying to make sense of her weird behavior or trying to make sense of who's hooking up with who on the trip which isn't that enjoyable or interesting to sit through. It's all quite dull and uninteresting as no one is really that worthwhile nor does it provide the film with any kind of continuous supernatural attack with all this teen love-affair drama holding up the running time. That ties in with the film's other real issue of being way too convoluted for its own good. The idea of the film being laid out as a possession tale is given to us from the very start with the lengthy backstory about the figures from the past and their fate together as well as the incidents involving her as a child which clearly signal this as one type of film. However, a lot of what goes on here in the finale, despite how much fun and gruesome it is, feels out-of-place in this mix of ghostly romance and revenge from beyond the grave. Very little of it ties together in a cohesive manner and stands out as a result, which combined manages to bring this one down overall.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.
