A Visual Meditation on Peace

A powerful and eye-opening exploration of the complexities of peacekeeping, "The Art of Un-War" offers a poignant answer to the questions: Is perpetual peace achievable and what would it take ? The film shines a spotlight on the remarkable work of Krzysztof Wodiczko, whose public art installations and thought-provoking approach to war and trauma challenge conventional ideas about conflict resolution. The documentary doesn't just highlight Wodiczko's work though; it immerses the viewer in the emotional and psychological realities of those impacted by war, giving voice to the often overlooked human cost of global violence. The cinematography is visually stunning, and the storytelling is tightly focused on delivering a message of hope, questioning, and the potential for change. It's a film that will make you think long after the credits roll, especially in its powerful examination of why peacekeeping efforts often fail. A must-watch for anyone interested in the intersection of art, politics, and human rights.

Amazing artist!

I had the privilege to follow Krzysztof Wodiczko for quite a few years and witness firsthand how migrants, unhoused people, veterans, and others, who suffer from PTSD use his projects for different purposes. As an artist, I was extremely amazed to see how people were able to use the projects as a tool for healing. I can attest that they did indeed get a lot out of the process- in fact, I would say the process itself was the most important aspect to them. And the other thing that was important was how in every country that I traveled to the audience was so fixated to the monuments speaking. Wodiczko's special ability is how he's able to hold peoples attention for a long time with his projections. They are indeed mesmerizing and quite profound. To me here's not that many artist in the social practice arena. While all art communicates a message of some sort, I feel what is special about this art form is that it communicates a message to individuals but also simultaneously on a societal level.
