Atrocious, almost in every way

There are times when you watch a movie and you think that something of a certain kind will happen, but the plot goes elsewhere and you may feel baffled, frustrated, or sometimes pleasantly surprised.

There are a few times when the something that could happen simply doesn't, and that's it: nothing really happens. Of course something happens, in the end, but nothing that shakes the attention of the viewer in any way.

The main character is so frustratingly passive that you may think she suffers from some kind of unhappiness, or maybe even some sort of mental illness, but it's not the case either. When I started watching this movie I thought it was a short, and not a 93 minutes torture.

The actress who plays the main character is the only thing that somehow appears to be well chosen, she is definitely good (not that there something really difficult to play, though: the dialogue is almost absent and the character is almost without expression no matter what feeling is implied); the cinematography is quite good, but the rest is simply embarrassing.

Spoilers ahead:

In a way this movie is frustrating because you see a boy committing a rape and getting away with it, there's no hope for the girl, no "exit", never a real change... and - even more frustrating - the writers (and the female director with them) decide the main character is better with a son she has never planned or chosen - it's implied at the end that she doesn't finish school - than with a life of her own without the kid (there's not only abortion, which to be fair can be traumatic; in Italy you can choose to give birth and immediately refuse to raise the child, no one will object and the child will be adopted). But there is no grief nor sadness, no real drama, not even a final real joy. What happens, happens, and that's it.

Excellent indie for the lost

The movie started off, and the first thing I thought was "the angles though".

To me, it was clear from the beginning, that this was the work of no ordinary director. The movie was made with passion. The aesthetics spoke to me. Alma Noce's powerful acting and her eternal sulk was beyond the call of duty.

There is also this evil touch to it. A tragedy that is not so unordinary, which only makes it an even more real and emotional experience.

But Nadia, the protagonist, turned it all around, with her strong will, or some lingering and mysterious force that is never explained to us. The mystique intrigues and captures one's attention.

I loved the birthmark. It satisfies the viewer's need for something unique and different. A subtle detail, but nonetheless, of great taste.
