Paul Giamatti, as Robin Williams, but hateful in his best performance.

A movie like the ones from before... that's how they describe it, that's right. It's a simple movie in its approach but masterful in its execution. We have an excellent Paul Giamatti, far from his role as a comedian or bad guy in cheesy movies. He suffers from the comedian's curse, when they act in dramas they are not recognized and they break it. Here he is not the exception, he gives you a character like Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society but on the contrary, he is hateful, he is stubborn, he is a guy with traumas and he applies them in his classes. He is a guy who we see his evolution from having a visceral rejection of high-class students and without any problem to worrying about one of them and reaching the bottom of his heart. Dominic Sessa is very good, especially considering that it is his acting debut, and Da'Vine is a delight, he sells the whole character to you and you believe it from beginning to end. Great direction, very good script and tremendous performances. What more could you ask for?

Life Affirming...

Now here's a film with a life affirming theme, that should encourage most viewers to think of their dreams, and cascade away all their cloaks, inhibitions, and open fresh doors to their heart's intuitions; as a teacher whose life is as stale as dead fish, whose life is the opposite of happy and bliss, meets a boy who's ignored by all those he holds dear, and a friendship is formed that is warm and sincere; it's a subtle reflection of how we get trapped, by tradition and habits and past circumstance, where surroundings like prisons can temper our thinking, to distil all our spirit, to bottles for drinking; so embrace all the chances when they come along, break out of that mould and sing your own song, open your eyes to the paths unexplored, take a stand and stand tall, and stop being ignored.
