Aside from the good editing and compelling narration, can we please take a moment to appreciate how freaking incompetent almost all the characters are. The junkie and the obese Neanderthal flew all the way to the designated island, realized they had no digging tools and that they couldn't purchase anything on the island so then flew back. I was expecting there to be some grand reason as to why they flew back. Maybe they needed more people, more money, more something. NO. They literally flew back, brought ONE freaking shovel and then tried to dig the hole and gave up. Ridiculous.
This, however, is separate from the director. I have seen some people give this movie low ratings because the characters are idiots. How is it a bad movie because these REAL people are total morons?

Plot summary
Rodney is an American dreamer. His glass is not only half full, but it's half full of the finest wine you've ever tasted. But when the great recession wipes out his construction business in Central Florida, his family faces a nightmare of debt. One evening around a campfire, Rodney hears a story from an old, bare-footed hippy that just might solve his family's problems. There's an island. There's a map. And there's buried treasure...$2 million dollars just waiting for someone to dig it up. Rodney is hooked. But there's just one slight, itty-bitty problem...he doesn't have a shovel. Oh, and the $2 million dollars just happens to be in cocaine form.

Homie flew back to buy a shovel.
One or the funniest things you'll see this year
There is so much hilarious real life misadventure packed into an hour and 25 minutes. I love the fact that the story is told as a mixture of documentary and Coen Brothers-style bumbling crime comedy. It would be hard to make up characters like this. Contrary to what some of the negative reviews say, I thought the editing and cinematography were spot-on, as well as the music choice. Someone could have shot the same story in a boring way, but the use of camera angles and clever editing are top-notch and make it all the more entertaining.
A FLA Town I'd Move For
I truly love when I go blindly into art and leave gut-punched-happy and amped. Oh man, this was good, I'd say the best non-informative personal story piece I've come across it quite some time. There are three real-life dudes (characters in their own right) in this Doc which would have no problem anchoring a Hollywood budget blockbuster, playing leads and having movies written specifically for and lobbying for them to come on set. The soundtrack was masterful. The sequencing of scenes was superb. The suspense was spot-on. The "guess" factor was a go from the get. The grinning and wincing were also in full effect. Check it out if you do nothing but wipe your arse' today. You'll be happier for it.
