Plot summary

Interior designer Nicole, food blogger Sydney, stay-at-home mom and wife Lauren, and singer Tara officially met and became friends one New Years Eve in college. That coming together came about as each was facing romantic heartache of one sort or another, they vowing right then and there always to be there for each other in their time of need in issues of the heart. Rather than be pessimistic and call themselves something along the lines of the broken hearts club, they instead called themselves something more positive: the love club. While the now four adult women have gone their separate ways, they have remained true to that vow, with each needing the three others as they face some issue of love in some way related to the heartbreak from that New Years Eve.—Huggo

Nic and Sydney installments

The ratings are totally reversed in my opinion. Nic's pen pal was far better than Sydney's Journey.

Overall it's a cute concept. But it also seems they don't talk all too much, but the one referred to the ladies as aunties to her kids. And yet they set up a video call when someone is in a love club emergency and not just regular daily friends. It's 2023. Where is the text chain? Sydney sends an email to say she needs them. And in both they all just drop everything for a week?

Nic: the inn is closed for remodel and yet, they are able to get there right away to stay? Even with lying about who they are. It's unrealistic. She is trying to get her business going and yet she spends all this money for a job she won't get paid for? And when an inn closes for remodels they aren't looking for someone to go in and swipe out the doilies and add s'mores and a charcuterie board to a "honeymoon suite" it's just silly. And he talks about what's in her letters. So wouldn't she ask if it wasn't you how'd you know what I wrote? Do you know what was written back? Woulda changed everything. Proper ending. I liked these characters.

Sydney- she had to pivot after getting hurt in college so she has a blog now. In the other episode it sounds kinda new. What else has she been doing for 10 years? Blogging is obviously a full time job but it didn't really seem like it here. This whole time they sounded like 3 years out of school not 10. Bryce broke up with her 4 times in college the last being just walking away on NYE. They couldn't be that serious to keep pining after him for a decade. And not seeing him in 10 years then all the sudden non stop. A doctor goes to a conference him and his hospital group of runners aren't staying in town for a week to do a half marathon. It's just stupid. February in Canada and they are wearing light jackets to run and a dress or jeans and a shirt? Hmmmm. Again the friends drop everything to stay with her while she trains to cook up this situation. And she hasn't run since she got hurt a decade ago? Bryce is a total tool. It's pretty bad. Just. No. Definitely should have like a 4 while Nic's story is a 6.

Misused potential

5.9 stars.

Somewhere amidst a genius concoction, and a cast of potentially likable characters, stands "The Love Club". Unfortunately, I felt the need to bail out after a sassy girl and a prissy girl let a seemingly genuine guy have a thorough whipping; meanwhile another girl remained neutral and the last girl was somewhat indifferent. After all of this confusion had transpired and "The Love Club" had been devastated by the bull in a china shop that I will refer to as a dead end script and a lifeless pairing of two actors, I am spent...

What a supreme disappointment that started off so full of promise, with an original idea and four women who appeared to be up to the challenge. I lost interest as It was starting to deflate a quarter of the way in, and was totally flat by the half-way point. I stuck around simply out of curiosity to witness the inevitable derailment of one of the most wrecked stories ever given the green light by Hallmark.

The lead female is completely impossible. I have liked her in every other role she's done, so why did they have to ruin her for this? She comes off as rigid and snappy, and not a woman I'd pine for even remotely as he does. The other three women are hit and miss and I could delve into each one individually, but I don't feel like taking the extra time. I will simply add that they don't jive as a group of old friends, but rather seem forced and awkward too often, especially for women in their 30's.

And then there's the final reveal of the true pen pal, which was most unwanted and best left a mystery as I shivered in revulsion at the whole scene.

This film is rotten. WARNING: KEEP OUT!

could not sit through

I have a high tolerance for Hallmark movies but this was horrid. Maybe the plot would work if the characters were middle schoolers but they are adults. You know Nicole is in trouble when one of her first lines is about wanting to find a man to complete her. Fast forward ten years and she still has the same mind set. She ends up engaged to a guy who is a caricature of the typical Hallmark bad boyfriend, which is saying something. So she sets out to find her college pen pal with whom she felt a connection by cyberstalking him then messing with the remodeling of his business. Which he finds okay because he too felt a connection. That's all in the first third of the movie. It just goes downhill from there.

There were some funny lines and I liked Josh but Nicole is so neurotic and insecure I just couldn't finish. She should be a cautionary tale, not the heroine. And this movie falls into the sexist trope that the woman can lie and scheme with impunity but let the man out one for wrong and he has to grovel for forgiveness. No thanks.
