What I saw was Vodyanaya a Russian movie about Tatar folklore about two children who's mother was taken by an ominous lake spirit and not the English movie The Mermaid's Curse.

I was about to find "The Mermaid's Curse" on YouTube and it's started as bad as the other reviews stated. In fact after the first couple on the beach celebrating their anniversary suffered the typical stereotyped nonsense of the girl walking up on the dude being eaten and stayed long enough for him to fall on her.

So she does actually escape the first time, but as I said "SOS different day" she gets back to the car, but now it doesn't start. Next the dude who hasn't died yet makes it to the car, and she temporarily does the right thing by keeping the doors locked.

That doesn't last long, because the brain damaged zero common sense female character opens the door and gets out crouching by the dead dude.

So the Mermaid reappears and instead of getting back in the car and trying to start it again. Dumber than a brick decides to hide behind a knee wall. Needless to say, death number two within the first 12 to 15 minutes of the movie.

So get ready for a lot of stupid people making the absolutely worst decisions possible.
