Plot summary

Tankový prapor (Tank Battalion) is a Czech comedy film. It was released in 1991. The movie represented the first privately produced movie in Czech Republic. It was a blockbuster. Today, the movie is perceived as a classic, it is the most acclaimed movie of his creator, director Vit Olmer, it starred Lukáš Vaculík, a popular star of youth movies in the main role, as well as the by-then well received comedian Miroslav Donutil.

A fine adaption of the Skvorecky novel

Skvorecky portrays the boredom of life under communism more than the humour of it, and this adaption closely follows the book and captures this well, by never letting up with interminable propaganda speeches, especially from manic major Roman Skamene.Life during National Service becomes a chore to be lived through: army work has no interest or usefulness, officers (most of whom themselves only mouth the propaganda) are to be tolerated, even sex seems joyless.
