Plot summary

A married couple are thrown into a crisis when the wife, an under-appreciated and stressed "supermom," suffers a post-traumatic breakdown during the holiday season, causing her to regress to her college-age, party-girl self. While she teams up with the neighbor's 19 year old daughter to paint the town red, her bewildered husband must navigate the chaos at home.

A Refreshing Premise That Mostly Delivers

I went into The Throwback intrigued by its premise, and while it didn't fully hit every note for me, it was still an enjoyable watch. Justina Machado is fantastic, bringing charm and depth to her role as a wife navigating a life-changing crisis. Will Sasso is equally endearing as her steadfast husband, offering a great mix of humor and heart. Some parts of the story felt predictable, and certain subplots could have been explored further, but Mario García's direction keeps the film moving along nicely. It's a solid choice for anyone looking for a feel-good, lighthearted drama with relatable themes.

Good Lord, who voted this dreck so highly?

We were looking for something entertaining and highly rated for a Friday night, and we stumbled across this movie. Little did we realize that everyone who worked on this film must have jumped on voting up their experience. Will Sasso (I loved him in Mom) is the only actor doing anything beyond pulling his own weight, and everyone else (kids included) were kind of horrific, but who can blame them? The concept was good, but we knew within minutes that the writing was just flaccid, the situations are predictable, and the actors did what they could with it with the dead script they were handed. They just weren't given a whole heck of a lot to work with, and it shows.
