Plot summary

Becky is an intelligent and sociable high school senior that flies heavily under the radar when it comes to receiving attention from the boys of her school. However, this is the year it all flips around when she tries out and earns a uniform on the cheerleader squad lead by Ms. Flynn. Becky’s life is heading in the right direction when she catches the eye of the charming and handsome new student, Rob. Rob seems like the ideal boy, until his affection turns into obsession and he stops at nothing to keep Becky all to himself.

Watchable, but nothing outstanding...

Needless to say that I had, of course, never even heard about a movie such as this prior to stumbling upon it here by random chance here in 2025. And since I believe in giving all movies a fair chance, especially if I haven't already seen them, then of course I opted to check out "The Wrong Cheerleader". Wait, that sounded sort of wrong.Regardless, writers Adam Rockoff, Jeffrey Schenck and Peter Sullivan put together an okay script and storyline. I mean, it was watchable and entertaining for what it was, but this was by no means a gemstone in cinema. Predictable, sure, and the writers were pretty much playing it safe by cashing in on all the established tropes of similar cheerleader-themed thrillers.Of the entire cast ensemble, I was only familiar with Vivica A. Fox. The acting performances in the movie were fair. So Vivica A. Fox was in this movie titled "The Wrong Cheerleader" playing Coach Flynn, and then one year later she showed up in "The Wrong Cheerleader Coach" as Coach Burke.This is the type of movie that you watch once, then never return to it a second time.My rating of director 's 2019 thriller "The Wrong Cheerleader" lands on a four out of ten stars.

Too many things ruined this movie, like plot holes and the ever-present Vivica Fox

Why not use teenagers to play teenagers rather than grown men pretending to still be of high school age?

I can only assume a favor was owed to actor David Meza as I have no other explanation as to why the producers would otherwise have blatantly miscast a middle aged twenty something actor to play a 17-18 year old high schooler? I understand when seasoned veterans whose careers are waning try to hang on to their long lost and forgotten youth by refusing to play grandparents rather than some stud and/or vixen, but when a mature adult is inserted as a high school student I just shrug my shoulders and accept that this film is going to bomb. No surprise then when I rate the film a 3 out of 10 IMDB rating.
