Vice: nostalgia-laced fall from grace

10 or so years ago - Eddie Huang's: Fresh Off the Boat Vice series was one of my all time favourites. The way he blended food reviews with NY street journalism - documenting the best places to eat and cultural diversity of Millennials in the city (then, in our 20's). It made food shows cool again.Eddie rocketed a little after that and deservedly so.I stopped following along with vice generally in 2018 - and judging by this doc - it seems like Vice fell off after selling out around this point.Vice captured lightning in a bottle and corporate interests infected and led to the eventual necrosis of Vice's ephemeral coolness.Eddie's views and experiences with Vice in the doc is biased. His legal battles with the company over unpaid dues - are discussed and covered in the movie in detail.Overall a nostalgic yet disappointing look at a publication that totally dropped off.Well worth a watch for ex-Vice fans, like me... but not sure if it will resonate outside those who followed along 10+ years ago, though.

Great documentary about an all too common pattern of media evolution today.
