Gender politics aside, its a good road movie.

Personally I don't have any hard views on the subject. Live and let live, treat people how they want to be treated, why upset someone if its no skin off your nose?

Watch this if you're truly interested in different types of people and what motivates them in their life choices. Also, if you like American road movies, good music, and Will Ferrell. But, if you are the type who enjoys kicking out at others who you know you will hate even before you know a thing about them, why did you even think of watching this film?

Of course the presence of a household name and a camera crew in tow is bound to affect peoples reactions along the way, somewhat distorting the mirror that is put up to the face of middle America.

There are occasions of humour, emotions, revelations, fear, and awkwardness.

At times, it's not an easy watch, but along the road you should learn somethings, even if only that Mr Ferrell likes Dunkin Donuts.

My comment to the hate.

This documentary is going to influence so many lives. For those of you who don't understand that statement, let me explain. No one chooses to be "different" but society sets down a strict set of rules that they feel they are entitled to have, causing people like Harper to live a life they never felt alive in. Nothing is more beautiful and freeing then just letting others peacefully be their authentic selves. And if I need to explain what I mean by that as well I will. Being your authentic self means not causing harm to others while doing what you want with your body and soul and that's exactly what Harper is doing here, she's radiating joy because for once in her life she's free to live the life people have forbidden her to live. To be hateful in the face of joy is such a miserable thing, so why don't we watch this documentary and allow the joy of Harper's fresh start consume us. So to all of the comments speaking true to the hate and fear they were taught when their minds were still pure, just stop. It is okay to allow the happiness of others. It won't hurt you to watch this documentary and just for a moment allow yourself to forget all the hate you were taught and be a kid again.

Thank you.

One Moment makes this entire documentary

I stumbled upon this documentary completely by accident. Not a huge Will Farrell fan but the subject was fascinating; how does a life long friend react and interact with their friend who is transitioning? I assumed it would be a vanity piece for Farrell who could use this and say "look at how I accept my friends transitioning and aren't I a great guy"

I was wrong. There are poignant moments in which they openly discuss questions that I'm sure many would have. Harper Steele loves traveling through this country and is nervous about how she will accepted in the bars she loved to visit when she was a man.

There is a scene where she and Farrell are at a race track in Oklahoma and she's talking with a random stranger about her fears and the local guy asked "are you happy" and really that's all we can hope for anyone.

Very sweet and powerful moment.
