one of best movies to watch when you're sick at home

A Second Chance is such a classic movie for 2000s kids who were home sick. However, the acting isn't that good and the plot is weird. The rivalry over an accident that lasted more than a decade isn't that realistic. Although, this movie is good for that nostalgic gymnastics feels.

Actors are NOT into gymnastics

I actually liked to watch the movie a few times but not because of its greatness. Something really bothered me like how on Earth the best gymnast behaved and moved so awkwardly. I mean you could see a mile away that no way would she ever win a competition. You never actually saw her performing hardly any moves with her face and the parts you saw were full of shaky moves and she nearly fell over after a simple basic move (the only move with her face on it). Then I realized to check the names of the actors and oh yes. They ALL had body doubles. Maddy's double is an Australian gymnastic girl. So there you go. She is good for nothing. So I wonder if she got the part just because she was a daughter of some other actress since she was the worst with balance and dancing. She just moved like an elephant in a china store - clumsy and unsure of her body. Maybe because she was so young but I would have cast ed the parts differently. Her poor gymnastic skills and acting skills made it very hard to watch. Luckily the story itself was good enough and the couch was handsome :). Otherwise ... oh well. Why why did they have to cast the clumsiest girl possible to the part of Maddy??? Luckily the real gymnastic girl was VERY good. She should have been acting that as well and not just be a body double. Thank you Australian gymnastic club for doing ALL the work :).

Good for what it is

Poor acting and canned plot aside, this movie was the non toxic good fun it needed to be for an enjoyable movie night with my 8 year old. Recommended if you're looking for an easy watch with your kid and they love gymnastics. It's a simple predictable story about a girl with a lot of potential gaining the confidence to beat the odds. Maddy is a rising star gymnast but jealous teammates succeed at feeding her self doubts when they start believing she may be real competition. With the help of her upstart new coach, Maddie begins to set her sights on winning the upcoming national competition. It's not ruining anything to say she eventually gets there because it's what the movie is so clearly about. I could come up with a thousand reasons why I would never want to watch it again but seeing my daughter yelp with excitement and joy in all the right places made it all worth it.
