Plot summary

A director wants to make a documentary about actresses, all actresses: the popular ones, the unknown ones, the intellectuals, the comedians, the forgotten ones... Filming everything, with or without their consent, the director gets caught up in the game and lets herself be devoured by these women, who are as fragile as they are manipulative.

B.O.R.I.N.G.

The boring example of the french movie star system. Stay away.

The pacing of the movie is uneven and sluggish, with long stretches of tedious dialogue and insignificant scenes that contribute nothing to the overall story. It feels as though the director attempted to create a contemplative atmosphere, but instead, it becomes an exercise in frustration as scenes drag on without purpose or substance. The lack of tension or narrative drive makes the film a tedious and tiresome viewing experience.

The plot of is equally lackluster, meandering aimlessly without a clear sense of direction or purpose. It attempts to delve into existential themes and the tortured artist trope but does so in a superficial and unengaging manner. The narrative feels disjointed and fails to provide any meaningful resolution or payoff, leaving viewers questioning the purpose of the entire film.

Sorry about all the stars who did accept to take part of it. It happens.

I Had A Ball

There are several good reasons to like this film ... Karin Viard, Melanie Doutey, Marina Fois, Jeanne Balibar ... you can see where I'm going with this. There's is also a gorgeous touch when writer-director Maiwenn has Bertrand Blier 'direct' Karin Viard in a movie-within-a movie and it's gorgeous because Blier himself made a movie not a million miles away from this called - wait-for-it - Actors. With this and a follow-up movie, Poliss, Maiwenn enters the ranks of French female directors to be reckoned with and now, in my book at least, she is right up there with Danielle Thompson, Nicole Garcia, Toni Marshall, Marion Vernoux, Anne Fontaine, Agnes Varda and the rest. Okay, it's slightly wacky, and the songs aren't as classy as those in 8 Women, another cast-to-die-for movie on similar lines but the truth is that if you love French cinema this is one to wallow in.
